LICENSING
Ideal holds current licenses for operation under the District of Columbia’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), Childcare Licensing Unit. Ideal adheres to the Child Development Facilities requirements outlined in Chapter 3 of Title 29 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR) which governs the licensing and operating standards for child development facilities. The DCMR provides guidance “to protect the health, safety, and well-being of children in licensed Child Development Facilities and to ensure the provision of developmentally appropriate programs to those children.” Ideal works hard to adhere to all licensing requirements.
The licensing process includes a stringent set of standards that must be met and includes such things as a “Clean Hands” certificate, Certificate of Occupancy, proof of liability insurance, proof of qualifications of the Director, statements regarding certain program standards for operation, and a contingency plan for emergencies. The program walks through an application process to renew its licenses annually.
A copy of the approved license is displayed in each center along with the ‘Certificate of Occupancy.’The Certificate of Occupancy certifies that the centers comply with all Federal and District of Columbia fire, safety, building, and zoning regulations and codes.
A copy of the DCMR is available on the OSSE website under the Division of Early Learning and drop-down “Licensing.”
ACCREDITATION
Ideal is a recognized and certified as a“NAEYC” accredited program. NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children is a nationally known organization that provides ‘best practice’ guidance to early childhood programs across the country.
Since 1985, NAEYC's national accreditation system has set professional standards for early childhood education programs, allowing families to find high-quality programs for their children. NAEYC strives to raise the quality of education for all children from birth through age eight. Accreditation systems are a major part of NAEYC's efforts to improve early childhood education; they allow programs to provide the best learning experiences for young children and their educators by meeting national standards of quality. Accreditation is the highest form of recognition an early childhood program can attain and is an indication of a program that has undergone inspection of its facilities, educational practices, as well as policies and has been given a “high-quality” program rating.
