Language development and an interest in potty training are milestones that indicate readiness for our 2 to 3-year-old classroom. Our curriculum for ages 2-3 years of age focuses on the following four foundational areas of language, relationships, movement, and senses perceptions.
Ideal teachers develop weekly lesson plans to meet the individual needs of the children in our 2 to 3-year old program. First and foremost, lesson plans establish routines and children find comfort in predicting what comes next in their day. This sense of security allows them to be more inquisitive about their world. As a result, these youngsters use trial and error to demonstrate more complex responses to people and objects.
Daily lesson plans promote developmental growth of communication, the formation of vocabulary and the increasing awareness of reading by:
Exposing your child to different words based on weekly themes during circle time and small group activities
Incorporating “one and two step” routine directions each day to promote listening comprehension
Encouraging your child to talk about his/her experiences and feelings throughout the day
Maintaining a print rich-environment including posting children’s names, organizational charts, displayed vocabulary words, and a variety of books
Using toys for listening, speech, and emergent writing activities and puppets and story props during teaching time
Our teachers consistently promote sharing and peer relationships, which help our 2-3 year Olds develop the ability to socialize with friends. Ideal teachers consistently model the language of inquiry and discovery. As a first step in developing language and vocabulary, children are encouraged to verbalize their needs and feelings. Teachers reinforce this by prompting children with a variety of questions to promote growth of communication.
The partnership between Ideal teachers and our families is crucial to ensuring your child has a positive experience in school. Open and continuous communication is an extremely important practice for our teachers. We provide you a daily report that gives detailed information about your child’s day, need for extra supplies and most importantly how you can reinforce their learning at home. A minimum of two formal parent-teacher conferences are scheduled each year. This harmonious relationship creates an environment where our children blossom into life-long learners.
